Record Gasoline Production Likely Throughout 2002
Sources: History: EIA; Projections: Short-Term Energy Outlook, March 2002.
Notes:
Despite lower refinery runs in January and February this year than last, gasoline yields have been kept higher, presumably because of relatively lower demand and higher stocks for distillates. This has resulted in estimated gasoline production at record levels for this time of the year.
For March through May, we expect gasoline production to match or exceed last year’s record levels for those months.
As the summer driving season proceeds, gasoline production will need to remain relatively high, due to expected strong demand and relatively low inventory levels.
