Everything that is not part of a system (sys) is the surroundings (surr),
and vice versa:
Euniv = Esys + Esurr
qsys = -qsurr
wsys = -wsurr
The total mass-energy of the universe is constant. Therefore
mass-energy cannot be created or destroyed.
Mass can be converted into energy in nuclear reactions, and energy can be converted into mass in nuclear accelerators.
