Entropy Changes in the Surroundings
Those two possible types of enthalpy changes are:
1. Exothermic. Heat lost by the system is gained by the surroundings.
2. Endothermic. Heat gained by the system is lost by the surroundings.
The change in entropy of the surroundings
is directly related to an opposite change in
the energy of the system and inversely related
to the temperature of the surroundings before
heat is transferred.
