Determining Solubility from Ksp
Problem: Lead chromate used to be used as the pigment for the yellow lines on roads, and is a very insoluble compound. Calculate the solubility
of PbCrO4 in water if the Ksp is equal to 2.3 x 10-13.
Plan: Write the chemical equation for the dissolution of the compound to see the number of ions formed, then write the ion-product expression. Solve for [Pb2+] which equals the concentration of PbCrO4 present in solution.
